I had the pleasure of interviewing the talented mind behind one of my favorite blogs, Grey Likes Weddings. It is an inspirational blog, cleanly laid out, and always filled with lots of usable content, insight, + advice. Plus, her inspiration boards are always fabulous {you must check them out}. To be completely honest, I'm a bit envious at how she is constantly able to produce them all the time {really, they're always fresh + unique + filled with eye candy + great finds}! Grey likes weddings, & Jomygoodness {hearts} Grey! {don't forget to scroll all the way to the bottom}

Who is Grey Likes Weddings?
Grey Likes Weddings is the brain child of my alter ego, Grey. I think Grey is much more decisive and courageous than I tend to be by nature. In my own approach to weddings, fashion and interior design, I find myself opting for the “safe” route. Grey gets tired of safe and is always looking for new and fresh ideas (or throwbacks to vintage ones!), which are so hard to find sometimes!
What is the story behind the name Grey Likes Weddings?
The true story is that my brother-in-law came up with the idea during a late night over-the-phone brainstorming session. His cat is named Grey. How embarrassing! But I loved it and I think it works. I think the whole concept really grew out of his random suggestion.
Three words to describe Grey Likes Weddings... {plus, explanations}
{one} : modern-I have several friends who are designers and they’ve really started to tweak my taste...I’ve grown to love the modern aesthetic and sensibility
{two} : vintage-this is the one thing I can say I’ve been naturally obsessed with, even before it was “cool”. I can’t spend enough time in thrift stores, antique shops and flea markets. I’ll take the flea market over Pottery Barn any day.
{three} : practical-I hate when magazines and blogs offer too many ideas that no one can realistically aspire to. I prefer to keep most things within the realm of possibility for readers. And I think that it is super important not only to offer “eye candy” but to provide as much source information as possible...so that if you see something you like, you have some clues as to how you might go about doing that for yourself.
What makes Grey Likes Weddings different from all the other wedding blogs out there?
There are SO many phenomenal wedding blogs out there; so many of which are incredible resources for brides. Grey Likes Weddings is in its baby stage right now...there is a lot planned for the future. For now, I think one of the things that is different is the rather topical approach that I like to take in regards to trends and ideas. Also, I try really hard to come up with new concepts and again, realistic ideas. Lastly, the blog is meant for more than just brides. I love to offer suggestions for anyone with a bride in their life, be it gift ideas, shower inspiration, etc... I think planning a wedding should be about more than just picking out flowers and invitations. It is an event that symbolizes the combining of two lives, not just on an emotional or practical level, but on a broader social level as well. Utilizing the planning time to celebrate the union of not only the couple, but families and circles of friends as well. Doing so can really make the entire process that much more monumental, not just for the couple but for everyone else that is involved.
What inspires Grey Likes Weddings?
Hmmm...so many things! Anything can really set me off. I’m very oriented toward noticing color and texture. All it takes is a great outfit, or a beautiful living room or a remarkable photo. I’m really inspired by handmade goods because again, they are really unique, so I’m always scouring etsy for new finds. I’m also incredible inspired by anything that might take you by surprise—putting something where it might not normally belong and creating juxtaposition!
What is your favorite kind of eye candy {gowns, flowers, invitations}?
Honestly, I think one of my favorite places to go for eye candy is Snippet&Ink. Kathryn’s ability to create such inspiring palettes is both frustrating (because she’s just so dang good!) and challenging. I love how she really puts together more than just colors; her boards create a mood. On a side note, I really thinking putting together (or picking out) an inspiration board is really important for any design project. It is like creating a road map where you collect all your ideas, find a way to make them work together and provide direction for your choices from that point forward.
What is the signature _________ for Grey Likes Weddings:
{drink} : Hmmm...Might have to be champagne, because it is so celebratory. The pop of the cork just screams “I’m happy!” I’d throw in a little splash of cranberry juice and a raspberry to take it to the next level.
{flower} : This is one of the hardest questions for me to answer because I started in the wedding industry as a florist. I suppose my classic mainstay is the peony, though I’m really into poppies right now.
{font} : My favorite typeface? Well, like a total dork, I still love Helvetica, especially Ultra Light. But my brother-in-law is working on some stuff in Gotham and I really love it. Totally generic, I know.
{color palette} : This changes on a daily basis. Seriously. It is torture to make me pick. But, I think my all-time favorite color is white. I love the clean, airy, bright feeling of white. And it goes with everything. White on white with a side of white, please!
{favor} : I like favors that are correlated to the wedding location, bride and groom, etc... Bride’s family owns a farm? Give away preserves that were jarred from their homegrown fruit. Groom obsessed with baseball? Give away cracker jacks. Wedding on December 27th? Christmas ornaments for each guest. Destination wedding in Mexico? Offer up flip flops, and organic sun screen and skin care. I just LOVE personal touches that are thoughtful and unique to the event and the couple.
Stay tuned for a SPECIAL announcement + fantastic opportunity for {arranged} from Jomygoodness + Grey Likes Weddings!
