Mix It Up #62: Mascara Fizz

This is for the ladies... It's my birthday today, so I thought I would mention a drink that I consider very femme and a must-have for any cocktail party.  It's called the Mascara Fizz, and it's courtesy of Food & Wine.  I never leave home without mascara {ok, almost never}, and I suggest that you don't go through this holiday season without this drink.

Mascara Fizz

	3 maraschino cherries, plus 3/4 oz syrup from the jar superfine sugar  3 dashes of Angostora bitters 2 brown sugar cubes 1/2 oz cherry liquer  4 oz chilled champagne
	Coat the rim of your champagne flue with a 1/2 oz maraschino cherry syrup & dip in the superfine sugar to create the SWEET rim.  Sprinkle the bitters over the sugar cubes.  Add the cherry liquer, maraschino cherries, and remainder of the maraschino cherry syrup to the flute.  Top off with champagne & sugar cubes.

Movie Monday :: Steel Magnolias (on a Tuesday!)

I know, it's Tuesday, but seriously, it doesn't get more movie classic than this.  If you haven't watched the movie, Steel Magnolias, I insist you stop reading & pick up a copy.  This is one of my favorite movies of all time.  I remember watching this movie when I was in the third grade, and I swore that my wedding was going to be "blush & bashful" just like Shelby's - - not pink & pink.  To this day, I quote Shelby (Julia Roberts) and say "Pink is my signature color."

If you had never seen this & got concerned with Shelby's episode, I'm sorry, but isn't her hair classic?  Where did you get ready for your big day? 

Martha Stewart Weddings. 15th Anniversary Issue Preview.

I hope you would agree with me when I say that Martha Stewart Weddings magazine is probably one of the best, if not THE best, wedding resources out there.  Whether it's in print or online, they are always an inspiration.  Their issues include so many DIY projects & recipes that are easy and can easily be incorporated to your day.  Their color palettes are always HOT and reflective of today's bride.  Their "good things" are details that any type of bride can use as a starting point of making the big day reflective of her style and the day's overall theme.

Below is the cover of the 15th Anniversary issue.  The cake is by Sylvia Weinstock.  It truly is a time to celebrate & reflect on the 15 extraordinary years Martha Stewart Weddings has contributed to the industry and each bride out there.  In all honesty, when I've hit one of those creative walls where I can't seem to figure out what to blog about, I randomly pick up a back issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, and ideas fill my head.

 

As you can see on the cover, and as I have been told that this issue will feature the 15 of the best GOOD THINGS.  What?  The job of narrowing down the top 15 must have been one huge task, because there are so many brilliant "good things".    Below is a sneak peek of the 3 of the 15 GOOD THINGS being featured in this anniversary issue.  

 

Besides the never-ending eye candy I get from this magazine, I think what I love most about it is that it has such a balance on the ideas & inspiration it brings.  They bring something fresh, yet classic every time, and I can see a project that they bring back 4 years later,.  I often find myself saying "That's so Martha Stewart Weddings," and I don't think I can say that about any other magazine.  These "good things" are classic Martha Stewart Weddings, and will never, ever go out of style.

 

Congratulations, Martha Stewart Weddings!  And thank you for all the details, ideas, and inspiration the past fifteen years!  It's nice to know that we'll be seeing more of you in the future!  Be sure to pick up your copy, which will be hitting newstands in a several days!

Mix It Up #61 : Holiday Peppermint Martini

Holiday Peppermint Martini

	5 oz vanilla vodka (Stoli) 2 oz white creme de menthe  1/2 oz peppermint schnapps
	Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice.  Strain & serve in a martini glass, and top it off with a mini candy cane as your garnish.
